Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Turdy Character on a Quest to Find the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is in full swing, and enthusiasts have encountered plenty of interesting independent titles. But, one stands out for its quirky concept. Titled Unko Technica, this old-school styled platformer includes a character that is literally a turd striving to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" is Japanese for "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a one button to leap. Throughout numerous stages, you'll face boss fights and unlock a store to acquire customizations for your fecal avatar.

Execute your jumps precisely, since one mistake forces starting over. Leap using bubbles to hurl your character higher, navigate disappearing surfaces, and interact with triggers to open hidden paths. Earn currency to purchase more difficult game content where the action gets crazy.

In terms of design, the demo shows off vibrant environments and a killer background music. The retro art with morphing abstract forms evokes memories of players of classic titles like Earthbound.

Even though difficult to name other games where you are a piece of feces, gaming frequently featured scatological themes. For instance, in Death Stranding, players create grenades from character waste. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use feces as soil enrichment. And of course, fecal references is present a lot in the South Park RPG The Stick of Truth.

Despite its humorous concept, Unko Technica has already garnered significant accolades, such as taking top honors at a major publisher's indie contest in 2023. The demo is available at present on Steam, with the full game planned to debut on computers on November 19.
